I have been visiting Ruci & Idoni frequently and especially on Wednesdays when they have live music for lunch. I was invited for a tasting session of their new menu which was, much to my delight on a Wednesday! Fellow blogger Vishal had warned us about the huge spread and yet it took me by surprise.
Since I had a bad throat, I couldn’t enjoy the mocktails instead the chef suggested me a detox tea. The warm tea was just what I needed to soothe my throat. And then started the onslaught of food…
Soups – I had the Corn & Cheddar Chicken soup which probably was one of the best soups I had in a long time. Rich creamy texture of the soup and succulent chicken pieces . The soup came along with a warm, buttered and toasted bread. Dip the bread in the creamy soup and enjoy.
The vegetarians in the group were offered the Mushroom soup.
Salads – The Watermelon & Feta orange salad was a riot of colours ! The orange and mint dressing along with watermelon pieces is any easy salad to like.
Appetizers – The first appetizer to be served was the Ohris style nachos which was polished off in no time. The crunchy nachos were topped with salsa, jalapenos, cheese and sour cream.
The Bruchetta platter had four variants – with tomato salsa, mushrooms & cheese, chicken & cheese and another one which stood out among all was the one that had caramelized apples & raisin topping.
Chipotle chicken skewer – spicy grilled chicken skewers. The juicy chicken pieces had a nice smoky flavour.
Wasabi Prawns – The grilled prawns were served with a wasabi sauce. The prawns on their own lacked the wasabi punch and even when dipped in the sauce it was not coming together well. We suggested the chef to redo it again and the revised version had that beautiful wasabi kick.
Next we tasted some burgers and pizzas. Ruci & Idoni were among the first few places in Hyderabad to serve thin crusted pizzas and my family’s primary reason to frequent the place. On the menu were 2 pizzas – Meat Ball pizza and Carpacioca.
The veg pizza with bell peppers, mushroom, jalapenos and olives was good and I liked the fact that it was loaded with veggies. The meat ball pizza was my favourite. The lamb meatballs were juicy and flavorful.
I am not a fan of burgers so skipped them – Basil & Pesto Chicken sandwich and Tex Mex Veg burger. The Tex Mex burger was liked by everyone on the table and it looks so good too! The red colour is not artificial but pureed beetroot. It has a veg patty and onion rings sandwiched between the buns.
We are not done yet! Three mains in veg and three non-veg mains are yet to be reviewed.
Baked duo peppers – bell peppers stuffed with vegetables and couscous and served with a tomato sauce was easily the weakest dish of the day for me. The flavour of bell peppers is typically enhanced when you roast the peppers really well and their skin is charred. In this case, the peppers were more raw than cooked.
Shepherd’s Pie – minced lamb meat topped with potato mash and baked. The meat was juicy and very subtly flavoured. Sorry I don’t have a pic for the same.
Desserts – Thankfully there were just 2 desserts on the table – Fudge Brownie in a jar and Baileys Irish Cheesecake.
Do visit Ruci & Idoni and give their new menu a try. My recommended dishes would be – Nachos, Wasabi prawns, Tex-Mex burger, Cilantro fish and of course the Bailey’s cheesecake!
