I was invited for the Dim sum Festival held at The Lounge Bar, Hyatt Hyderabad. Dim sums are typically a Cantonese cuisine whose preparation consisting of small mouthful portions of stuffings in a steamed bun. The variety of the fillings gives a whole world of difference to the taste, flavour and texture.
The Dim Sum festival had four options to choose for in the veg and non-veg fare.
The non-veg options were – Prawn Shumai (steamed prawn dumpling, bamboo shoot and scallion), Scallop dim sum (steamed crystal dumpling filled with scallop and asparagus), Spicy chicken dim sum (chicken with oriental mushroom and scallion) and Lamb khotey (lamb with soya and scallion).
My favourites were the Prawn shumai – perfectly cooked prawns and subtle flavour of spring onions and Lamb khotey – the meat was very tender and these dim sums were pan fried. The scallop dim sum was nice but I didn’t get the contrasting asparagus texture in the filling that I was looking for. The chicken-mushroom was good too but chiken dim sums are quite regular compared to the above mentioned ones.
In veg the options were – Mixed vegetable dim sum (steamed crystal mixed vegetable), Spinach dim sum (garlic and spinach dumpling), Chinese cabbage dim sum (chinese cabbage, carrot and shiitake dumpling) and Water chestnut and pakchoi dim sum (pakchoi, bamboo shoot and water chestnut dumpling).
My favourites in the veg options were the water chestnut and pakchoi dim sums. If there was an award for the “cutest looking dim sum” – the mixed vegetable one would win it hands down! The spinach one was my least favourite one, the flavour of spinach being too strong. I forgot to click them though. The Chinese cabbage dim sum would have been even better if the shiitake flavour would have been a little more prominent.
I must say though that the Chef made it a point to keep different flavoured dim sums in unique shapes. Kudos! Overall, I had a wonderful lunch at Hyatt. Thank you Hyatt Hyderabad for hosting me.
While I was waiting for my dim sums to arrive I clicked the lovely desserts which are part of the regular buffet. Wish I had some appetite to taste these though.
